Blockchain
Distributed ledger technology is rapidly transforming the world. The rapid advance of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies presents business with a wealth of new ways to boost efficiency, create new business models and disrupt incumbents. Our blockchain team is passionate about the opportunities provided by distributed ledger technologies and ideally placed to help clients navigate this complex landscape.
With law and regulation are struggling to keep up with technology, it is essential our clients are equipped with critical advice in this burgeoning sector. Our clients know they can rely on us for considered expertise in the legal issues related to blockchain and for our deep industry knowledge.
From fundraising, licensing, taxation, privacy, anti-money laundering, corporate structuring and other regulatory advice, we have the knowledge and experience gained advising leading Australian and international blockchain projects including start-ups, cryptocurrency exchanges, FinTech and RegTech operators and established businesses seeking to leverage distributed ledger technology while managing the legal risks.
Piper Alderman regularly presents on blockchain-related legal issues at conferences around Australia and the globe and was the only law firm recognised as a Finalist in Blockchain Australia’s Advisor of the Year awards for 2019. Our Group Partner Michael Bacina was a Finalist in Blockchain Leader of the Year (2019) and won Blockchain Policymaker or Influencer of the Year (2019).
We are proud to be the first major Australian law firm to accept bitcoin payments for legal services and from October 2019 have expanded to cover other major cryptocurrencies. We have built strong relationships with trusted developers and other professionals with expertise in assisting clients within the blockchain space.
