The Qingdao Gather Great Ocean Algae Industry Group (QGGO) is based in the coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong Province, China. The company is the second largest processor of seaweed in China and provides pharmaceutical grade seaweed processing raw seaweed into products such as alginate, alginic acid, iodine and protein feed.

QGGO has invested in seaweed processing in Australia after acquiring the operations and harvesting rights of Australian Kelp Products, a company from the Limestone Coast region.

The processed seaweed from the Australian operations is expected to be used in a variety of fertiliser, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical products and exported across the globe.

Piper Alderman acted as Australian legal counsel for QGGO on the acquisition of Australian Kelp Products and related commercial matters.

We worked with QGGO’s China-based executive team to negotiate and document the contractual arrangements and guide the company through the complexities of Australian commercial laws and regulations resulting in a win-win for seller and buyer.
