Restructuring & Insolvency

Piper Alderman is a leader in the field of restructuring and insolvency law. Our national team brings years of experience in dealing with complex technical aspects of insolvency to deliver commercial outcomes for our clients. We are all experts in our field and bring a commercial and practical approach in what can so often be a highly charged and inflexible environment.

We act for a broad cross-section of insolvency practitioners; from the Big 4 accounting firms, the large specialist insolvency firms and through to SME insolvency practices servicing the largest part of the market. We act for banks, finance companies and secured creditors in relation to advice and enforcement of securities. We regularly act on the restructure of distressed businesses and advise directors and boards on their duties and obligations including in relation to “safe harbour” trading. We act for creditors and debtors alike and have particular expertise in personal insolvency and bankruptcy law.

Our experience includes acting for listed and unlisted companies across multiple business sectors including mining, property, construction, retail, manufacturing, technology, health, medical, bio-tech and start ups. We regularly act for offshore interests having assets within Australia and we operate across all Australian State jurisdictions.

In developing resolution strategies and finding optimal solutions to our client’s needs our Restructuring and Insolvency team will regularly work with the integrated resources of our firm, utilising our expertise from our property, construction, corporate, commercial and finance teams.

Our partners are all experts in their fields and have been involved in some of Australia’s largest and most complex insolvency administrations. Recognised as leading lawyers in peer and client reviews such as Doyles Guide to Australian Lawyers and Australian Legal 500, our partners include Fellows of the Australian Restructuring, Insolvency & Turnaround Association and members of the Law Council of Australia’s Insolvency & Reconstruction Committee who have been actively involved in the development and reform of insolvency law for over 20 years.
