Joshua is a partner specialising in banking and financial services law and acts for banks, credit unions, building societies and other non-ADI financial services and credit providers throughout Australia.
His practice includes advising clients in relation to lending and deposit-taking activities, regulatory issues and reforms and the various types of distribution and commercial arrangements entered into by credit and financial services providers. He has expertise in NCC-regulated and commercial credit and lending, mortgages and personal property securities, credit deposit and payment product development, financial services regulation, privacy and the advertising and marketing of credit and financial products.
Joshua also acts for his clients in relation to banking and financial services related litigation and disputes nationally, particularly in the enforcement of mortgages over real property and resolution of disputes lodged with the Financial Ombudsman Service.
In addition to his legal qualifications, Joshua has formal qualifications in Information Technology and draws on these skills in advising banking and financial services clients in relation to the electronic delivery of financial services, legal issues associated with interacting and contracting with customer electronically, the development of new and innovative payment methods and devices (including mobile applications) and software agreements relating to banking systems. In recent times, Joshua has advised clients in relation to the introduction of digital wallets, the continued rollout of e-conveyancing and the legal issues associated with lodging mortgages electronically in PEXA, and the build and rollout of the New Payments Platform.
Joshua is currently studying his Masters of Banking and Finance Law at the University of Melbourne and regularly leads seminars on Financing and Personal Properties Securities for the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice course offered by the Law Society of South Australia and the University of Adelaide.
